Satellite Imagery Data Collection and Analysis for Sustainable Development, Early Warnings and Agri-Aqua Assistance

Most developing nations do not have access to the extremely detailed satellite imagery that is available today. These high resolution images are crucial for protecting the environment, assisting marine and agriculture professionals, rapidly sharing advance weather warnings and so much more. The Satellite Data Imagery Collection and Analysis Project is intended to address this urgent issue as climate change rapidly affects our planet.

The Project Overview

In association with Planet.com and Coursera team of three university students will complete a remote course in satellite data analysis (two months) Following connect to Planet's satellite imagery system and target relevant data. Once obtained, the team will set criteria for weather events, Agriculture and Aquaculture assistance data, sustainable development and other areas. The team and the Space Platform team will reach out to important sectors of the economy and offer their assistance on demand. The initial assistance to those players will be free of charge to share their high quality work as a marketing campaign. After contacting a number of organizations, public and private, a marketing person will be added to the team. Within one year, the project will spin-off into its own independent entity and be completely self sufficient.

Our Approach

 

Our data will be crucial n measuring dozens of indicators under 14 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and working closely with the United Nations guidelines to help achieve the 2030 agenda in the pilot project in Nigeria. With the help of our data, Nigerian organizations can also develop approaches that support and align with the SDGs, while achieving solid growth.  Governments, the private sector and NGO's understand the challenges ahead and look to adopt more sustainable practices but often lack the ability to see how their policies and activities affect their region and the entire planet. With high-frequency Earth observation data with modern cloud infrastructure, the project will show their positive impacts and challenges, so they may better serve both people and nature.

The overall target is to monitor, report and share, all in a timely manner the multiple levels and conditions concerning flooding, agriculture, aquaculture, land use, maritime and sustainability. The team will also conduct research in target areas such as hydrology, illegal fishing, forestry and habitat monitoring.

There will be a contact point to access the team by email, telephone and in-person (or online) appointments coordinated by Dogeroid. Regular visits to key areas will occur on a weekly basis or in the event of urgency, as needed. There will be two reports published. The first after implementation and application of the projects and the second, a final report with results and suggestions for continuing, expanding and innovating.

With today’s advances in computing and satellite technology, it is now becoming a reality. The result is a continual stream of satellite data that can provide valuable input at each stage of the farm management workflow. The result is more sustainable, efficient, and productive agriculture, immediate weather warnings, etc. every step of the way.

Special Note: It is crucial for advanced university students in developing nations to have sophisticated tools and guidance for them to not only successfully complete the project, but to create high-level employment opportunities that grow and develop into world class organizations that work internationally and expand their reach to assist other countries, thus creating constructive ties and relationships for years to come.
